Art Handlxrs Profiles

This open call is looking for art handlxrs to profile and feature through Art Handlxrs*. These profiles would consist of a interview and accompanying photographs that would be utilized to support, elevate, and celebrate the work of our community members and increase the visual representation of BIPOC, queer, trans*, non-binary, disabled, and women art handlxrs. AH* wants to expand how we care for our community through the positive envisioning of art handlxrs across generations, race, class, ability, and gender. Through these profiles AH* aims to create more tangible labor opportunities for art handlxrs.

The labor of art handlxrs is made to be invisible within arts organizations. This lack of visibility has proliferated a labor force that is predominately white, male, and cis and a work culture that is not equiped to support diversity and equity within the work environment. By using first-person storytelling and photography, AH* will produce visual profiles that better represent the diversity present in our current moment. We want to uplift each other, through our collective fierceness.

Project Description & Compensation

This project is budgeted to offer five art handlxrs $300 each to participate in a photoshoot and interview that is estimated to take a total of 2 hours. Art handlxrs who are interested in this opportunity need to be located in the expanded Bay Area and will be expected to travel to San Francisco or be available for AH* to come to you at your location. Art handlxrs should also self identify with one of the following to qualify: BIPOC, queer, trans*, non-binary, disabled, women. We hope that this engagement will lead to longer term engagement and collaborations with accepted applicants and other art handlxrs. We envision that this will be an ongoing project as we continue to seek funding and strongly encourage you to apply for consideration.
